ABBYY FineReader Professional Edition is an all-in-one solution for your entire document archiving needs. It is capable of producing electronic searchable PDF files out of your paper documents, thanks to its powerful OCR engine, and transforming into MS Word files all your PDF and image files, or, for that matter, any document that you can capture using a scanner.

Though high-quality scanning and Optical Character Recognition is what has made of FineReader a reference in this field over the years, this new version 11 not only comes with improved and enhanced OCR and ADRT technologies, but also with a handful of extra functions and utilities that will allow you to create EPUB e-books, convert PDF documents into OpenOffice files, and save your images as DjVu files.

When it comes to producing searchable electronic documents, you can either use existing PDF or image files or a freshly-scanned document as source. Either way, the program’s OCR engine and its new ADRT technology will work together to produce a new electronic document that is both searchable and good looking. Its enhanced OCR technology is now capable of recognizing up to 189 languages – these include some “dead languages”, and 45 of them come with dictionary support for higher accuracy. The recognition accuracy has been increased to an astonishing 99.8% (subject to the quality of the source document, of course), which guarantees an accurate rendition of the document’s contents. The Adaptive Document Recognition Technology (ADRT), on the other hand, will use that accuracy to produce a clone of the original structure of the document based on its layout. Thus, it will reproduce the original hierarchical structure, the table of contents, headers and footers (including page numbers and footnotes), fonts and font styles, vertical headers, the logical text flow, table cells, spreadsheets, etc. But the great thing about it is that all these tasks and processes are now carried out even faster than ever, thanks to its support for multi-core processing.

PDF (including PDF/A) is still FineReader’s star format, but it is not the only one. Now you can also save your archive documents using the DjVu specification, which is capable of storing high quality images in smaller containers. New PDFs can now be tagged and made more accessible for blind and visually impaired users, too.

Besides, and following today’s trends, FineReader 11 offers you the possibility of creating your own e-books without leaving the application. It can now produce high-quality EPUB and FB2 e-books out of any of your existing or newly-scanned documents.

Oh, and there is one more thing, FineReader 11 comes with an even better version of ABBYY’s Screenshot Reader, for you to capture any section of your screen – you can then use FineReader’s magic to extract all the information in the screenshot easily and accurately.
